Online preparation of Activity Statement (BAS/IAS)

Clients that lodge online need to be aware of certain portal problems.

When you prepare your figures to be lodged this June 2017 quarter (or month) online, please be aware that the ATO have been having some technical difficulties.

The changes/difficulties noted are as follows:

1. Changed format
2. No preview button (sometimes)
3. Lodgement not requiring authorisation (or authentication) prior to lodging

Our office has encountered a number of instances when trying to view an activity statement, whereby the portal has immediately lodged the activity statement, thus revealing the issues brought to your attention above.

The new look is called the “new simplified BAS” but still requires the same work with only a few labels omitted.

These issues have been reported to the ATO.

In addition to this, where clients access their “MyGov” account and establish communication with various government departments we are finding interference with correspondence to this office in regard to your tax return matters.

We have been informed about this problem by the ATO after reporting that we did not receive certain documents (NOA, etc) on behalf of clients.

The ATO will in these situations send an electronic document to you which may or may not be noticed until legal proceedings have commenced (worst case).

In order to rectify this situation please go to your MyGov account and disable “personal communications” in regard to your income tax correspondence.
